Current Culture H2O: Hydroponic Crop Production Rooted in Science

Established in 2006, CCH2O designs and manufactures High-Pressure Aeroponic (HPA) propagation and Recirculating Deep Water Culture (RDWC) cultivation systems for the North American CEA and Greenhouse market.  Our pioneering approach to cultivation requires no grow substrate, leading to lower input costs and increased operational efficiency.

Our seed-to-harvest approach provides a seamless transition from aeroponically propagated seeds or cuttings transplanted directly into recirculating deep water culture and grown full-term.  These proven hydroponic methods reduce substrate-associated input costs and minimize post-harvest waste streams, all while producing superior-quality crops.

Seed Starting & Stem Cutting Propagation – High Pressure Aeroponic (HPA)

High-pressure aeroponic propagation provides efficiency, consistency, and versatility, unlike any other propagation approach. HPA’s ability to propagate and cultivate in the same system makes it the smart choice for modern cultivators.

Seed Starting: Utilizing a peat-based, bio-degradable seedling plug, HPA systems provide extremely uniform diffusion throughout the chamber, maintaining seed plugs at an optimal air-to-water ratio.

Stem Cutting Propagation: This approach uses synthetic collars to hold the cutting stem during the 2-3 week rooting period. This process produces a bare root cutting, ideal for transplant into hydroponic applications. These soilless, barefoot cuttings can prove especially useful for operations that export their clones, as no medium is allowed to export clones to other countries.

Tissue Culture Compatibility: The HPA system is a handy tool in the tissue culture process, providing an ideal condition for the final stages of development. TC labs typically transfer plantlets into a substrate like rockwool cubes or other medium, slowing progression. Alternatively, utilizing the biodegradable plugs, the HPA system provides an automated environment that makes this final stage much easier for the TC plantlet to grow into a more viable plant start.

Mother Plant Cultivation – Recirculating Deep Water Culture (RDWC)

The cultivation of plants for use in producing parent material for stem cuttings is referred to as maintaining “mother” stock. Once the preferred genetics are identified to be used in production, the best representations of these genetics are grown for use in periodically collecting material and propagating stem cuttings. This method generally involves the cultivation of mother plants for up to 6-9 months before these mothers are cycled out and replaced. New mothers are generally selected from a cycle of cuttings, choosing the most vigorous to be grown on into new mother stock.

Considering the importance of a healthy propagation program to a professional cultivation facility, RDWC is a natural choice for producing robust mothers to produce the most viable cuttings possible for transition into production. Pump up cutting production in your grow with RDWC.

High Plant Density Cultivation – Recirculating Deep Water Culture (RDWC)

The High Plant Density RDWC approach to cultivation positions plants at approximately 1 plant per 2 Sq. Ft. providing a tightly spaced canopy. This method is ideal for cultivators looking to maximize the number of crop cycles achieved per year as it requires minimal veg time and produces uniform results throughout the canopy.

Freshly rooted bare root cuttings and established seedlings can be transplanted directly into the system, allowed to acclimate for 5-10 days, then quickly transitioned into flowering. This approach eliminates the need for dedicated veg rooms and added labor required to facilitate the additional steps involved with pre-vegging. Increased crop turns per year equals increased profits.

Low Plant Density Cultivation – Recirculating Deep Water Culture (RDWC)

The Low Planting Density RDWC approach involves maintaining the plants in a vegetative growth cycle longer, generally 14-21 days to grow a 1-2 foot veg plant before transitioning into flower. This approach generally reduces crop turns per year but provides a much higher field per plant and more root biomass.

Typically, optimal plant spacing is at 2 ft. plant centers,  with each plant occupying roughly 5 Sq. Ft.. It’s worth noting that many cultivators grow much larger plants successfully, which is especially useful where plant count restrictions apply. Though very prolific in terms of yield per plant, this approach provides fewer crop turns per year than the 14-21-day vegging approach. Ultimately, it's a matter of choice as to what works best relative to the details of the situation. Grow trees, not stress.

Small Scale Cultivation – High-Pressure Aeroponic (HPA) & Deep Water Culture (DWC)

Practicing hydroponic methods at home or in a market garden can produce clean, fresh herbs and produce year-round. Systems can be installed in applications ranging from small sunrooms to indoor gardens or even backyard greenhouses. Operating water culture systems is simple and provides a level of automated irrigation which saves time spent watering.

Because hydroponic crops stay well hydrated plants have strong pest resistance and a reduced need for pesticides. With a good environment and proper maintenance, recirculating and non-recirculating water culture systems produce consistent, productive results with minimal effort. Grow clean, go hydro.

Liquid Mineral Salt Blends – Precision Irrigation Compatible Fertilizers

It’s widely known that precision irrigation applications such as High-Pressure Aeroponics (HPA) and pressure-compensated drip systems are prone to failure if mineral precipitate clogs the orifice. These blockages lead to diminished flow and ultimately crop dehydration. Once blockages occur they can be difficult to identify and difficult to deal with, especially in mid crop cycle. Unfortunately once encountered, clearing the blockages requires either a strong acid or caustic flush or in some cases the replacement of nozzles and emitters.

Experienced cultivated have identified that the best way to avoid issues is to use clean, highly soluble mineral salt-based blends. These well-balanced formulations are typically comprised of macro and micros derived from mineral salts and chelates that stay in solution and resist precipitation. The most effective class of fertilizers are liquid blends that have had additional filtration to remove all impurities. these “ultra-pure” blends run exceptionally clean and have proven to produce a more palatable result.

With markets maturing, cultivators have learned that the value of the fertilizers they use is not defined by price, but by the outcome of its use.

Irrigation Mineral Descalers – Plant Safe Hypochlorous Acid

Having been used for decades by professional nursery and greenhouse growers to reduce the occurrence of mineral precipitate in irrigation and hydroponic applications, Hypochlorous Acid has proven to be a cost-effective tool for the modern-day cultivator.

Highly compatible in fertigation programs, HOCL is non-hazardous to handle and non-toxic plants when used within pre-established dosages. Utilizing Hypochlorous Acid is a simple and effective means of increasing the operational life span of irrigation plumbing while saving money on maintenance and replacement equipment. Take the worry out of fertigation by integrating HOCL into your fertilizer program.
